Roughening

Roughening of (mostly) metallic surfaces...

  • for following treatments, such as varnishing and/ or powder coating.
  • to prepare surfaces, e.g. for rubber/metal compounds.
  • to structure woods, e.g. for artificial aging.

The following survey can be only a starting point.

The kind of blasting system and the wished demands on the surface can
influence and change the following list.

Basic material: Blasting abrasive to take:

Fe - casting
Fe - metals
Steel shot VERA GS-R (spherical)
Steel grit GS-K (angular)
Steel cut wire FILGRA StD-Z
Malleable shot and grit THERMODUR

Nonferrous casting
Nonferrous metals
Glass grit
Steel cut wire FILGRA
High-grade corundum white and pink
Electro corundum NK I and NK II

Materials, such as
wood, plastic,
glass, etc.
Glass grit
High-grade corundum white and pink
Electro corundum NK I and NK II

  Special blasting corundum 3

One specialty of roughening is called sweeping. At this, a surface
is roughened without damaging it to prepare it for following coats.
Sweeping is used especially for zinced surfaces.

For sweeping in air-blast systems normally angular, metallic blasting abrasive
is used. In the meantime, sweeping is possible in wheel-blast systems, too.
In this case, special compositions of spherical and angular grains are demanded.
